about the movie and my essay

Postby miracleqimiaococo » Mon Apr 29, 2002 10:24 am

hi guys, i'm doing an essay, which is to choose either A or B and support it:

A. TUCKER was an enterpreneur and inventor with the intention of mass producing a new innovative automobile

B. TUCKER was a fraud and had to intention of mass producing an automobile until forced to do so. he was a fake and his intent was to fraud people.

obviously, i chose position A; but still, i don't get some part of the movie, like, where did it show "mass producing?" say, if i chose B, then why didn't he have intention to mass produce until forced to do so?

anybody who has seen the movie, please help me!! please! thank you very much!!

well, if you choose position B, i would oppose it.

on the part of mass production, he had the wharehouse and converted it to an assembly line where he produced 50 of the tuckers. therefor i would say those were plans for mass production and due to the troubles he hit, all production was cut when those were finished.

i hoped that helped,
P.S. I would prefer For A if I were writing it.

racing against time....

Postby The 1948 Tucker » Tue Apr 30, 2002 3:56 am

I think he was trying to beat the courts and lawsuits and stuff, to prove his cars were capable. example, at the end of the movie he took the court and jury for rides in his cars. of course it was to late but thats what he did.

you might want a 2nd opinion on that cause im not really sure, but thats what i can remember.
well, my teacher said something about his prototype (like, he had the prototype first, and then he had to make 50 cars in a limited time)
so what's with the prototype that postponed the time or someting?

Tucker Essay

Postby Steph » Thu May 02, 2002 3:32 am

You can't rely on the movie for a replacement for real facts. The movie was dramatized and fictionalized. I think Tucker seriously wanted to produce great cars, but he was not a businessman and his "creative" financing is what got him in trouble.

He used an old WWII airplane factory with a ton of space and had to produce cars to show that he was not trying to defraud the people he had already sold cars to and the car dealers who had already bought franchises.

Even though he was acquitted, the investigation took 2 years, and by then he had gone bankrupt.
Check your public library for Philip Egan's book, and look at the last few chapters.

Actually there were only 8 cars at the real trial, not all 50 (51).
